Sustainable Low-Glycemic Sweetener
Earth Circle Organics blond coconut palm sugar is a sustainable, non-GMO, low-glycemic alternative to other common sweeteners. Used for thousands of years throughout South East Asia, coconut palm sweeteners have a long, celebrated tradition in foods and medicines. With a moist, crumbly texture this sweetener has its own exceptional caramel flavor.
Coconut sugar is made by evaporating the nectar of the coconut palm, a highly sustainable resource which is beneficial to the ecosystem. Coconut trees are nearly twice as productive per hectare as sugarcane, and grow in a diverse, wildlife supportive environment. They thrive in severely depleted soil and need very little water, improving local soil structure, plant nutrition, and water conservation over time.
To create coconut sugar crystals, the nectar from the coconut palm is hand-harvested by traditional sugar farmers. They climb twice daily into the canopy of coconut palms to gather the nectar from the blossoms. The collected nectar is kettle-boiled into a rich caramel syrup, then dried and ground into crystals. Coconut sugar brings a vibrant sweetness to all-natural desserts to drinks and adds a bold and exotic flavor to savory dishes.
